This project aims to build up the skills and confidence of a group of women who have been affected by NRPF to campaign around the NRPF condition and section 17 support.

Project 17 have been coordinating the Magpie Sessions alongside The Magpie Project, another charity supporting migrant families with no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

The sessions have focused on:

  • Knowing your rights around section 17 of the Children Act 1989

  • Media (how it works and how to engage with the media around NRPF)

  • How to push for change through parliament

  • Public speaking

  • Storytelling

  • Power dynamics

With special thanks to Citizens UK, On Road Media, Maggie Smith, Lyn Brown and Stephen Timms for presenting the sessions.
