Project 17

Councils must protect and support vulnerable migrants during the pandemic

On 20th March 2020, alongside Migrants' Rights Network and the Public Interest Law Centre, we coordinated an urgent joint letter from over 50 organisations calling on local authorities to protect and support vulnerable migrants, particularly those with 'no recourse to public funds' (NRPF), and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, during the pandemic.

Shortly after this, the government told councils to assist all those who are, or are at risk of, sleeping rough, and those who are in accommodation where it is difficult to self-isolate. Three weeks later, many vulnerable migrants are still without shelter or enough to eat. Project 17, Migrants' Rights Network and the Public Interest Law Centre have again written to local authorities demanding urgent action. Read our follow-up letter here.
